Can you bench more weight on a smith machine that a free weight bar?

Question by : Can you bench more weight on a smith machine that a free weight bar?
I'm 5'6'' and 111. My max for the bench press is 130 lbs, but I bench on a smith machine. I was talking to a friend and he benches 125 lbs but he uses a free weight bar. He told me that you can bench more on a smith machine because the machine keeps the weight inline with cables. Is this true? Anyone use a smith machine?

Best answer:
Smith machine is easier to bench than free weight.
Because you can only go in one direction on a smith machine. Where as on free weights you need to also use muscle to hold the weight in line so you can press it up and down.
