Body Kits to Modify Your Car

Body kits, made famous by American TV show "Pimp My Ride," are a quick and exciting way to completely modify the look of your vehicle. There is simply no better way to pump up the personality in your car than by using a body kit to deck it out with a brand new look that keeps your car unique on the road.

Using various components that all work together to provide a matching look to your car, body kits come in many different colours, styles, and motifs. Although most car owners prefer to give their car a completely redesigned look that is uniform from bumper to bumper, some enjoy mixing and matching various components from different body kits. This can give your car it's very own feel that is certain to catch the eye of bystanders as you drive by, and it could be just what you need to convey your unorthodox and exclusive personality.

The components of a typical body kit usually include both front and rear bumpers, spoilers, possibly a side skirt or two, and occasionally a new hood. Other complementing components may include roof scoops or side guards for both the front and back of the vehicle. Body kit components are usually fabricated from either polyurethane or fiberglass.

BumpersDesigned originally to prevent damage to the car's vital systems in case of an impact, bumpers can now be used to give your car a hot look and make it stand out in a crowd. From as simple a modification as getting bumpers with a different tint than the rest of your car – or even a different shade altogether – to the complicated and twisted contours of the latest free-styling bumper design on the block, the bumper is where the body kit begins and ends. Getting the right bumpers can also help distribute your car's weight more evenly and even improve performance and handling.

SpoilersCalled by this name because they help to 'spoil' the effects of unfavourable air resistance across your car's body, spoilers were originally designed for racing cars. Although most commonly found on the back of a car, spoilers can be placed on the front or rear as both areas benefit from an increased air flow and reduced resistance. Some spoilers don't do anything to improve the performance of the car, however, and are purely for styling purposes.

HoodsThe modified vehicle hoods that come in most body kits are usually made for one of two purposes. Either they help to improve engine performance through increasing air circulation and promoting engine ventilation or they are made for the sole purpose of assisting your car in its quest to look great. Either way, the hood is essential. It can give your car a wider, more menacing look, or a narrow, cheerful feel. The hood can make or break the body kit, depending on its colour, design, and purpose, and special attention should be paid to this highly visible element.
