Hella Positivity - Day 2
It's my first day back at the gym since hurting my back a week ago and lucky for me, the Gold's Gym Challenge officially started yesterday during my weigh in. So my back healed just in time. WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BACK? I was doing some shoulder lifts on a weight machine when I squirmed during my last lift. I was pushing really hard and I REALLY wanted to finish. I did manage to get it done but my back got hurt in the process. It wasn't until a few minutes later when I reached down to grab a dumbbell when I felt the pain hit. Anthony, my trainer, showed me the correct way to do it and told me to stop if I couldn't do it anymore but I was too motivated and wasn't thinking. Lesson learned. Special thanks to areopostaleforever for the dog tag! Scales Weights & Weighing Machines

Question by December M: What is the trick to determining what the weight should be at on a weight machine?
I learned a trick once, but can't remember what it was. You know like for the machines at the gym, it was something like take the maximum weight that you can lift once and half it and then do X reps. Does anyone know the trick to how much you should set the weight at?
Best answer:
I've never used a rule of thumb like that. I take a guess. I'm usually shooting for three sets of twelve reps. If I can't get to eight, the weight is too high, if I get past twelve and can easily push past 15 in the last set, the weight is too low. You'll probably be able to tell if it is way too easy before you finish the first set--if not, just remember the setting for next time.
What do you think? Answer below!
