What are the chances of getting tetanus ?
I've had the shot every 5 years, one time I was going for a check up.
I told them I already had the shot. They gave it to me again before 5 years was up, and said ..
" It won't hurt you to get it again " hahaha
The main reason I'm bringing this question up, is because I was at the fitness center ( the YMCA, which is probably the first workout center, before all those new ones started )
Everyone either slides a plate under the bench, to even it out, or sometimes the workers put it back on the weight rack.
I highly doubt tetanus is a possibility in my case, but anything is possible. I slid a 25lb plate under the bench, and my finger scraped on the silver metal. It was bleeding for a minute, so I asked for a bandaid, and continued my workout !
The only thing that really crossed my mind was the dirty rusty looking bench itself, like the part I was lifting. It had black chipped paint. Can you get tetanus that way?
If my hand didn't scrape the metal, but instead it scraped the dirty rusty looking bench, could tetanus start that way ?
I'm always catching nicks & scrapes at that stinkin gym, the workout is bad enough ~lol
To wrap my question up !
The main way of getting tetanus is a rusty nail, but what about brushing up against a rusty surface, and causing a scar the size of a pen or pencil tip in length ?
Best answer:
You are well protected, getting a shot every 5 years. Tetanus spores are found in animal dung, in the soil. It is a myth that tetanus occurs from rust.
