Question by : Doctor wants me to gain 5 lbs. Weight training questions, advice, etc? Please help! :(?
So I went to the doctor and he was not impressed that I had not gained weight in 2 years. He wanted me to gain weight because he thinks I am too thin ( 5'1 and about 98 lbs, but I have a small frame ). If I HAVE to gain weight, I'd like to gain weight in muscle.

He told me not to do any cardio and to just lift weight, but I am NOT going to stop doing cardio! It's the best for your cardiovascular and respiratory systems... but I would like to gain muscle mass, and so weight training.

Now, I CANNOT go to the gym. We have some free weights at home, and we have a weight machine that can accommodate a few exercises ( Leg extensions, tricep full downs, lat pull downs, chest press, etc ). Nothing with bands or anything though. I do lift some weights now, but I have a feeling they are too light because I can do more than 20 reps, so I'm not going to gain muscle mass with that...

So my question is what should I do??? I want to get toned. I obviously want to tone my legs/arms/stomach/hips, so what should I do for that?
Does anyone have any exercises or anything that I could do? and I don't want anything stupid like "Just do some pushups, etc, etc". I actually want some programs with reps and the like, because I am serious about that.... I do NOT want to gain weight in fat! I am sensitive enough about my weight, as I used to have an eating disorder, and I do not want to trigger that again.

And my diet, if you are curious, consists of whole foods. I do not eat processed junk food and follow a balanced diet. I am a 17 year old female.

Please help me! Is there any other exercise I could do to gain muscle as well? I want to tone my arms/thighs/butt and of course abs would be nice!

Best answer:
push ups, start out with 3 sets of 15, flies, lay on your back use wieghts your comfortable and keep you arms as stright as you can and lift, better not look up youtube, its better that you look instead of me telling you go on youtube type in whatever you want to work on look up differnt exercises and do everything...Do NoT Consentrate on one group of muscles the only way you are going to get bigger or stay toned is working evrything especialy back and shoulders i do everything im 16 im 5 foot 5 male and weigh 155lbs and have a 38 inch chest, a 32 waist and a 37 ass and bench 220...friuts veggies and some meat is good food for what your trying to do
