Estimate calorie loss in a weight loss DVD?

Question by : Estimate calorie loss in a weight loss DVD?
I have been doing three Jillian Michaels DVD's. No more trouble zones, Shred it with weights, Killer buns and thighs. Is there any way to estimate how many calories I might be burning every time I do these DVDs?


Best answer:
Buy a wrist watch (generally sold in the sports/exercise section of large department stores) that tracks heart rate as well as calorie burn. Since your heart rate is your best measure of calories burned, this is actually a highly accurate measure.

Besides getting expert knowledge and guidance, there is another big benefit to embarking on a physician's program: you will have external motivation. This can help you clear a big hurdle if your own willpower isn't enough to get the job done. Here are some other tips that can help you succeed.

Don't Be Afraid of Failing

As any weight loss doctor can attest to, their patients are seldom first-timers. People will usually try losing fat many times on their own before seeking help from outside. Sure, they may buy some books or workout DVDs, but it usually takes some stumbling before they seek out professional guidance. Because you've already experienced failure, then, it has a tendency to consume your thoughts. But this is the quickest way to repeat your failures.

Set Reasonable Goals

This is often misunderstood. People hear that they need to set a reasonable goal and they think it means they should aim for losing 25 pounds in a year instead of 100. While one is certainly more reasonable than the other, they are both, to some degree, outside of your control. Think about it this way. You have a workout plan designed by yourself or a weight loss doctor. For a week, you follow the workout plan to a T. At the end of that week, you get on the scale and see that you did not meet your goal. Did you fail? Your mind is telling you that you did. But why should that be? This is what's dangerous about making goals of this nature. Center your goals around processes, which you have control over. Do the program. The results will come.

Know That It Will Be Hard

Tell yourself at the outset that this is going to be a difficult journey, because it will be. You will face temptations at every turn. These temptations will come in the form of cravings, laziness, and a feeling that you are being persecuted and punished. You have to realize ahead of time that this is something you want to do and to achieve it, you'll be facing adversity. For many people, it's one of the hardest things they ever do in life. But if you're prepared for the challenge, you won't be surprised when the going gets tough.
