Would jogging with a weight vest on increase weight loss?

Question by : Would jogging with a weight vest on increase weight loss?
I currently have started jogging about 5 miles every night. I am strictly doing to lose weight. I am looking to lose about 20-30 pound if possible. Would wearing a weight vest while I jog help burn more calories? What if I used it while jump roping and doing sprints?

Best answer:
The short answer is yes it will (You're carrying more weight, more weight = more work = calories burned) The important thing is that you're not carrying TOO MUCH weight and that it's distributed correctly. Otherwise you're just going to wind up ruining your back/neck etc.. Most of what you're talking about is impact related so be careful, if you do have weights like that you're going to want them to be snug against you so they don't shift/sway/jerk. They also make ankle/wrist weights those are snug and they balance (as you have them in pairs) Don't do anything DIY that isn't water based. I heard a story about a guy who jogged with a backpack full of bricks, then he wiped out, fell on them, and was paralyzed. So again,..weights are good just play it safe.

My friend is a national athlete and has been performing regular body fitness exercises and has been using the weighted vests ever since he started training. But since I was his close friend, I decided to ask him the importance of using weight vests and he gave the following reasons.

PROS

a. SpeedThe vests helps in working both the lower and upper body thus putting the body into believing that it is heavier even when you have taken it off. They basically help in building the body muscles so as to be able to do very explosive sprints, vertical jumps at very high speeds.

b. SafetyBecause of their different shapes and sizes, the vests have been designed to be able to support the weight of our bodies and eliminate any dangers that might be caused by harmful stresses to the user's bones.

The vests are used to help them increase intensity of aerobic, anaerobic, cardiovascular and other drills while other prefer wearing the vests when walking so as to burn more calories. These vests help reduce health diseases such as stroke or heart attack and increase the body muscles to work at higher rates of efficiency.

CONS

a. Back InjuriesSome exercises such as twisting of torso's muscles can cause damage to your back because it weight the weight vests puts strains on the muscles surrounding the spine .Adding more weight on the midsection of the upper body in weighted vests can put extra pressure on the spine that cause very serious back injuries.

b. CostsWeighted vests are found in different sizes and shapes but at very expensive prices with MiR weighted vests going at 0 and heavier vets costing 0 each. These costs limits many athletes who would want to own one so as to improve on their sprinting and higher jumping performances.

c. Joint And Muscle RisksMost people use the vests to add more weight on their muscles not knowing that the weight causes an impact on the body ligaments and joints more injuries are felt when the vests are worn while performing low intensity activities for the lower body.

Weight vests can really help in your exercise routines but they must be chosen and used wisely. It is important to start slowly and work up with the amount of time and weights used. By following some safety and common sense guidelines your fitness goals can definitely be met.
