When I go to the gym, I use the Natilus weight machines in a circuit. But I feel I spend too much time on each machine and take about 90 minutes on them. I was wondering how many reps and sets I should do on each machine?
Best answer:
If your goal is to tone, use lowish weight and as many reps as you like. However, if you can just go and go and go without ever feeling any sort of burn, perhaps it's time to increase the weight at least a little.
If your goal is to gain muscle, do 10 or fewer reps(3ish sets) at a higher weight. On this, you need to make sure you hit fatigue on your sets. (e.g.-you physically can't do any more reps on the higher weight) For example, the number of reps you'd expect to do would be 12 for first set, 10 for second, 6 on last set, with 30 seconds rest in between. Keep in mind, that first set, you would need to maximize the weight so that 12 is the most your body would be able to handle. And so on and so forth.
