What weight is recommended for beginners for medicine balls?

Question by Bookworm: What weight is recommended for beginners for medicine balls?
I purchased a 10 pound ball, but I think that might be too big. Obviously I don't want to keep buying them if I get the wrong. Would using what I can lift with dumbells be a good place to start?

I'm not talking about the big stability balls, but the smaller, soccer-ish sized balls.

Best answer:
The ten lb is a good bet, and a good book with exercises for the medicine ball really helps as well. I have one. It is not one that you blow up, but a solid medicine ball. If you wish to use hand weights, it doesn't matter, just adjust the repetitions to the weight of the dumbbell. I have a variety of them, plus tubing and stretch banding for home workouts. That means, two lbs, five lbs, and ten lbs, one set of each, plus a set of velcro banded ankle weights.
