Feeling awkward at the gym?

Question by Derek: Feeling awkward at the gym?
I thought it was just a beginner thing, but even with some time at the gym now, I feel awkward.

Everyone is huge while I'm not built at all, but on the contrary, I'm fat.

So when I'm at the weights, squats/bench/etc. I feel bad when I have to unrack their weights or take up the squat rack when people want to use it.

Also, there are only 3-4 benches there (small local gym), so people are always waiting for it. I spend about 10-15 minutes on it because I do 5 sets of 7 or so with a bit of rest, and people seem to just stand there, and I get paranoid.

How do you deal with this? Or am I the only one feeling weird about these things.
No, I spend 10-15 minutes while rotating around different areas, so people are free to use it after I'm at another area. Just that when I am lifting, people just happen to stand there and wait for me. Happens a lot, feels awkward.

And okay, I'm not FAT. I'm overweight, I'm 5'10 at 185 lb benching around 180, but there are people there doing 250, 300, and higher. And no, it's not bad etiquette, it's like as you said, people jump in between sets. And most people there are doing 250+, but I have to unrack their weights in between their sets, and it sucks, lol.

Well, thanks for the opinions guys, I thought I was the only one feeling out of place.

Best answer:
No, it's definitely not weird at all, it's totally normal to feel out of place. But if it gets too serious, just purchase one of those machines and do them at home.
