Why do professional weight lifters wear a black leather waist bag?

Question by Yahoo: Why do professional weight lifters wear a black leather waist bag?
It's not for back support, since that would be a weight lifting belt.
I'm talking about during the day when they are away from the gym. I noticed that Hulk Hogan still wears one with his everyday clothes. What's inside the leather bag? All weight lifters aren't diabetic are they.

How to Properly Use a Heavy Bag for Boxing

Article by Jonathon Hardcastle

A boxing spectator turned novice boxer is always eager to jump right into a heavy bag; in fact, they want to get started on the first day of training! Some schools will let the student get their wish, but they are just doing so to avoid hassle. It doesn't matter what type of boxing bag is it, some skill is needed and a novice rarely posses this skill. There are risks to getting ahead in the game; these risks can include pain and even permanent damage to the hands.

The best boxing schools will have different boxing bags setup throughout their facility. These different bags are designed for circuit training, which helps a boxer develop speed, strength, and coordination. However, these different sized and weighted bags can also be there just to accommodate to the varying needs of gym members.

On average, a typically male needs a heavy bag that weighs around 65 pounds. At the very least, a training school or fitness center will have two different weighted bags; they are usually 40 pounds and 150 pounds and a boxer will use them based on their own height and weight. An experienced boxer will want a bag that is similar to their own weight and size, while a beginner needs to start out small.

See, an experienced boxer has spent a lot of time perfecting their techniques and they have built up the necessary amount of stamina, speed, and strength. This is necessary with a hanging bag because you want the bag to move just a little bit. With practice, a boxer builds up coordination because they hit a moving target. Proper bag size is also important because a bag can sway too much if it is too light.

When a trainer feels their student is ready, they will pair them with the proper sized bag. Along the way, a boxer will be evaluated by the trainer and moved up to a different bag. A bag that sways too much with improper use is not only a bad practice tool, but it can be a danger to an inexperienced boxer. You might be surprised how many beginners have walked away with broken noses.

In school, you get guidance with a heavy bag but not at home. It is difficult to choose the right size because what works now may be too heavy or too light later on. Fitness gyms and training centers can afford to buy a wide range of different sized heavy bags, but a home-user is unlikely to afford multiple purchases.

For that reason, it is best to opt for a bag that may start out being a little bit on the heavier side. With committed training, your boxing skills will grow greatly and this means that originally heavy bag won't seem so heavy after all. If you are not able to use a boxing trainer, it is important to start out slow and steady; use this slow and steady pace to prevent injury or evaluate it as it happens.

It is exciting to use a heavy bag either at the gym or at home. You will be proud the first time you strike the bag hard enough to move it and your pride will increase with repeated punches and movement. Buy your own boxing bag, mount it as instructed and start practicing; that pride will soon arrive.
