Entry from: Alappuzha, India Entry Title: "Breakfast of Champions" Entry: "Managed to drag ourselves out of bed at 6.45am, ready for our first full day of cycling since we arrived. It was actually lovely and cool outside the hotel when compared to our stifling windowless room. We headed straight to the ferry dock hoping to get a short ferry trip across the backwaters before starting cycling to Alleppy. The tour guides on the dock were incredibly helpful and friendly, but said there was no point getting the ferry, much quicker to cycle. They gently tried to persuade us to take the 8hr tourist boat trip to Alleppy, and even showed us exactly where our bikes could go. It was very tempting, but we both felt that we really needed to test out the cycling and make sure it was possible. Both men shook our hands and enthusiastically said "Good luck, you are strong!!" when we told them we had decided to cycle. The lack of pressure to do things has been a refreshing change from the constant demands in Turkey. The tour guides also showed us a hotel just up the road where they said we could have a delicious breakfast before we set off. The place was clearly very popular with the locals and we had our first proper Indian breakfast of a large pancake filled curried potato and onion, two curry sauces and ...
LARGE 8-POINT WHITETAIL BUCK-RUT INTIMIDATE SCRAPE LIP CURL
A large 8-point whitetail demonstrates rutting behavior including intimidation, scraping, and lip curl. Here a large 8-point buck demonstrates the classical behavior of buck deer during the rut. He is first seen jousting a little with a younger buck. Bucks normally fight only those around their own size. It is obvious by the submissive behavior of the young buck and the majestic stance of the larger buck, which is stronger. The buck then inspects under a tree for odor, which tells him not only who has been around but also the mating state of female deer. He then gives a classic scrape. This normally begins with a buck pulling branches with his antlers and mouth. Thus, he leaves a general indication of his height and size. He then scrapes the ground with his hoofs, which lets deer know he has been there, probably passes by frequently, and if someone wants to meet him to call on him in this area. Female deer may leave scent markings in his scrapped area. Later he shows a classic lip curl posture with his head held high and upper lip curled upward. **Some of the world's largest bucks live in Ohio. Some of its world champion bucks have Boone and Crockett scores of over 300 points. Ohio's Beatty Buck may be the (or among the) largest ever taken by a hunter. That title of the largest whitetail, ever, in the record books belongs to the "Missouri Monarch," a 333-7/8 buck found dead on the side of a road in 1982 near St. Louis. In second place is the legendary "Hole in the Horn ...
